Fox Sports reporter Mike Coppingher has reported today that the 32-1 former world title challenger Andy Ruiz will take on unified champion Anthony Joshua on June 1st at Madison Square Garden on the DAZN streaming service.
Joshua had been without an opponent after Jarrell “Big Pharma” Miller tested positive for three banned substances by the voluntary anti-doping association two weeks back. It was widely reported that Ruiz and fellow American’s Michael Hunter and interim WBA champ Trevor Bryan were in contention to fight for the fill WBA, IBF, WBO & IBO world titles.
Ruiz last saw action just two weeks back retiring fringe contender Alexander Dimitrenko in just five founds on his first fight under the PBC banner. Previously he had lost a close majority decision to for the vacant WBO world title against Joseph Parker back in late 2016. After taking some time off after the loss, he fought a couple of tune ups to see out his Top Rank contract before impressing audiences on Fox on the recent Garcia-Granados under card.
