Charr-Bryan in jeopardy, Don King’s usual trickery to blame

It didn’t take long after waxing nostalgic about Don King’s return to be reminded why the world of boxing would be better off if he just went away. The January 29th bout between heavyweights Mahmoud Charr and Trevor Byran for the WBA’s secondary title appears to have never been signed in the first place.

Charr fired off an Instagram post alleging that no venue was ever booked, that King has been holding up the fight all these years and that the reason this is happening is because he’s trying to force Charr to sign with King in order to make the fight happen – a move that was made illegal under the Ali act.

Never one to back away from a fight, DonKing.com updated their website hours after being called out on social media with a hastily made promotional poster with “From The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywod” written in bold yellow arial font.

Charr appears to be in the right as a quick search of the Seminole Hard Rock event’s page yields no results when searching for “boxing.” A phone call to the casino’s events department also confirmed there was nothing currently scheduled for January 29th at the Seminole Hard Rock but was advised that if I checked back there could be forthcoming announcements.

Considering the venue has been listed on Boxrec for a week and Charr is openly stating “the title stays with us in Germany” on social media, I’m getting a little less optimistic about King’s triumphant return to heavyweight boxing.
