Wilder-Fury 2 announced!?

More Wilder news! The WBC champ has stolen the headlines from Anthony Joshua this week with two massive announcements. First it was confirmed that he’ll be rematching Luis Ortiz then on the day of the Joshua-Ruiz weigh in the Wilder-Fury rematch was also announced.

The announcement itself came in the form of a video montage posted on Wilder’s Instagram account. It was just a series of clips from training, the Breazeale knockout and Fury knockdown which ended with the words “Wilder-Fury II” and “The Rematch” written on the screen. No date, no other details offered.

Timing it on a rival’s fight week takes a page right out of Floyd Mayweather’s book, maximizing their own exposure and taking the shine off of a rival. While some haters are complaining that this is fake news purely designed to distract from the other champion, you cannot deny that Deontay Wilder is making these moves quickly and isn’t content to wait around.

At 33 years old he’s not getting any younger but is still in his prime. After taking so many soft touches to get to where he is, it’s refreshing to see him finally going for it. The real danger is getting our hopes up as fans and having something unplanned like an injury or shock loss derail everything. The latter would be a shake up and not necessarily be bad for the division, but would be disappointing nonetheless.

Update: Mike Coppinger is reporting that managers from both Wilder’s and Fury’s teams have approved this deal:
