Estrada avenges loss, wins WBC Super Flyweight title

Juan Francisco Estrada beat Wisaksil “Sor Rungvisai” Wangek on his second try by unanimous decision to win the WBC super flyweight world title 116-112, 115-113, 115-113 on Friday night.

Estrada outboxed the defending champion throughout the bout but Rungvisai’s trademark heavy hands and workrate kept things close.

The superior boxer Estrada built a big lead throughout the first half of the fight as Rungvisai was held at bay from getting in close and going to work. As the fight dragged on Estrada found it harder and harder to stay outside resulting in the two fighters trading their best – strategy that favors the bigger punching Rungvisai.

Estrada managed not to gas though, and finished the fight strong winning the 12th round which proved to be crucial to the decision.

Prior to the main event Danial Roman and TJ Doheny fought to unify the WBA and IBF super bantamweight world titles. Roman won by just a majority decision despite scoring two knockdowns.

Roman started well controlling the pace and was making Doheny miss while catching him at will. The first knockedown was scored in the 2nd which but was more a result of Doheny being caught off balance than being hurt.

By the middle rounds Doheny found success backing Roman up and staggering him with repeated left but Roman displayed an iron chin and withstood the worst that Doheny had to throw.

Fast-forward to the 10th round and Roman lands a peach of a body shot that changes the course of the fight. With Doheny hurt badly he fights the rest of the rounds with his elbows low to protect his body and promptly takes a beating, getting dropped again in the 11th and just making it to the final bell.
